Sleeping bags were originally designed and meant to serve as a “readymade bed” for one person. Its main purpose is to avoid the use of sheets and he bed separately making it perfect for travelers and campers. The double sleeping bag is one of the designs that is modeled out with the original design as the main idea but with a little twist.

Double sleeping bags, though, do not allow for sleeves like in the case of the German sleeping bags.

If you are a couple out on a camping trip together, double sleeping bags are a great choice. You could cuddle up with your partner and enjoy the excitement of camping outside with your partner close with you. Sometimes, children will always want a parent to be near them when sleeping anywhere outside from home. So if are planning you go out on a camping trip with your children, it might be prudent to carry a double sleeping bag with you. You never know when your child will say he / she wants to sleep near you. Again, as mentioned earlier, buying the kind of bags that can be zipped together to form a double sleeping bag is a nice idea if even the need for one arises.

One disadvantage with these sleeping bags though is that they are typically too bulky and unmanageable in a backpack. They are ideal for car camping trips but if you are thinking of carrying a double sleeping bag with you in a backpack, make sure it can be packed inside and doesn’t make your luggage too bulky. In most cases there will be instructions that will come along with the bag itself on how to pack a double sleeping bag by removing out all the air from it.
